Guerrilla Warfare in Guatemala
Guerrilla Warfare has been occurring in Guatemala for over 40 years. As I read my book, Red Midnight I soon learned that Guerrilla Warfare is not a simple problem. It is a major one! This FAQ explains the importance of Guerrilla Warfare in Guatemala, What death squads are, and how it all ended in the year of 1996 with the help of the C.I.A.. Red Midnight and all the websites I have been to has had unique events that has happened in Guatemala for many years now. I hope you enjoy this information on Guerrilla Warfare in Guatemala and how the C.I.A. has helped with their problem.

-What are death squads?

Death squads are armed military, police, insurgent, or terrorist squads that conduct extra-judicial killings, assassinations, and forced disappearances of people as part of a war, insurgency or terror campaign(“CIA Activities in Guatemala”). This is very crazy and bad for the people that live in Guatemala. But the thing is, they have been around since the 1960's all the way up to the 1990's(“Death squad”)! Guatemala is in between a rock and a hard place right now, and that's why the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency is working in Guatemala as of right now.

-What is the C.I.A. doing in Guatemala?

The C.I.A. has many undercover agents that have been working with Guerrilla's in the past decade. In between the years 1954-1995 U.S. Undercover agents have worked for decades inside a Guatemalan army unit that has tortured and killed thousands of Guatemalan citizens(“CIA activities in Guatemala”) These people are crazy! They don't care who you are or where you work, if you do not support them they will do some terrible things to you and your family. And that is not good.

-Could Guatemala possibly be a communist country?

Many foreign agencies and the United States of America have said that Guatemala could become a “Soviet beachhead in the Western Hemisphere”(1954 Guatemalan coup d'état). This is because of what the government has been doing to the people, like putting forth numbers of new policies, such as seizing and expropriating unused, unfarmed land that private corporations have set aside long ago.
Guatemala's Government has did this many times during the so called communist ruling. They used land reforms to take land away from the United Fruit Company too (1954 Guatemalan coup d'état). This control of land has been happening since the 1950's all the way to the early 1990's! Would this conflict ever end?

-What happened that ended the Guatemalan Empire?

As of matter of fact, it did. After 36 years of internal conflict, it formally ended with the signing of the Peace Accords at the end of 1996(“Guatemala Civil War 1960-1996”). Even though there is no more war, the Peace Accords didn't fully work. There is still tons and tons of poverty in the country of Guatemala. But, what it did do fully worked. This peace accord established immediate plans for the demobilization and initial incorporation of the rebel forces, the Unidad Revolucionaria Nacional Guatematelca (UNRG), and reduction of the Guatemalan army(“Guatemala Civil War 1960-1996”).
